BAHAMAS ECONOMIC CLIMATE 'IMPROVING'

THE country's economic climate is showing signs of favourable change, according to Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, who said things are not as bad this year as they were in 2009.

"It's not as bad today as it was last year. So we are making some progress," said the nation's chief at a press conference yesterday.

Still, the government is bogged down with rising debt as it has to continue public borrowing to meet its expenditure for civil servant salaries and the financing needed for upcoming infrastructure projects.

Mr Ingraham appeared unperturbed by the dismal economic forecast coming from analysts.
