Sandals Ride to Save the Wetlands, an extraordinarily successful partnership between the Sandals Foundation, Experiential Education and Young Marine Explorers is nearing the end of its 3rd month of operation. So far students from the following schools have benefited from the environmental education program which focuses on exposure to the wetlands, specifically the wetlands at Bonefish Pond and the wetlands at Clifton Heritage National Park:

1. The Akhepran International Academy

2. St. Bede’s Catholic Primary School

3. C.V. Bethel High School

4. Aquinas College

5. A. F. Adderley High

6. St. Thomas More Primary

7. St. John’s High School

8. St. Anne’s High School

9. Government High School

This represents a total of 647 participants out of the projected 3,000 that the program has pledged to accommodate.

Administrators and teachers are very pleased with the program and all students who have participated have expressed an interest in taking rides in the future.

Recently, the Sandals Foundation in partnership with Experiential Education and Young Marine Explorers hosted over 60 travel agents visiting Sandals Royal Bahamian on a Ride to Save the Wetlands Tour. The interaction ran for approximately 1 and a half hours and was an experience of a life time for the participants.

The travel agents got a rare opportunity to see the program in action as 25 students from the St. Thomas More Primary school learned about the wetlands under the expert tutelage of Nikital Sheil-Rolle and the interns of Young Marine Explorers. The travel agents were very excited as many of them said that it was their first time to a wetland area and interacting with students in a school based-eco-tour .

They were impressed by the well behaved manner in which the students conducted themselves, their enthusiasm as they engaged in the learning process and their intelligent responses.
