Bad Boys & Girl of Comedy Slay Entire Audience

Laughter rose to the ceiling at the riotous Bad Boys + Bad Girls of Comedy on December 7th. Though the event organizers at Phat Groove Entertainment did not get their expected sold-out event, the Rainforest Theatre in the Wyndham Resort was still packed to near capacity; and rightly so. A surprise, special performance by Willis and the Illest Band headlined the event, the crowd singing along to their soulful cover of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ with an unexpected encore performance of their hit single ‘Hey’.

When asked about the event result and turnout, Principal of Phat Groove Entertainment, Levin Wilson said: “I think that the event went very well. Promotionally, all comedic performances were good & we were able to start on time. We attracted about 600 persons. The Bad Boys & Bad girl of comedy on December 7th was our third installment of the Bad Boys of Comedy series.”

MC of the event, Rayzor, started the ruckus by letting the audience know that he is no stranger to The Bahamas by telling jokes that hit on recent and past national issues. He also played on different countries in the Caribbean. He was a successful transitional act; the guy between acts that picks on people in the audience; the guy who does the accents… Rayzor was that guy, and he was hilarious.

Up next was Damon Rozier, a man that enjoys “rolling up” on people (get it?). Hailing from Detroit, Rozier spared no expense, making as many wheelchair jokes as possible. Rozier gave insight and a different, optimistic perspective to being wheelchair-bound. He talked about parenting, work, women, and what some of us would call ‘making the best of a bad situation’ (i.e applying for a job as a window washer to prank the employer out of money). At the end of his act, Rozier confessed that his longtime dream was to become the best stripper ever. Well… since it’s probably better to let your imagination wander, there was a bottle of water involved.

B Phlat was second— the Bad Girl of Comedy out of Pennsylvania. She definitely appealed to the female audience, speaking on motherhood, being a wife, love, family and…other things. The highlight of her act was the “Long Song”; a… unique adaptation of the “Thong Song”. Why did B Phlat write this song? “Women need something to sing!” Some may have called her act vulgar, but the women in the room could mostly relate to her true-to-life stories about the end of the world, and the fact that everyone has that one aunt…

Marvin Dixon, a comedian who has appeared on HBO Def Comedy Jam and BET Comic View took the stage last. His jokes about classic rappers Notorious BIG and Lil Wayne brought back memories and his nonstop pace had the audience in glorious, side-splitting tears. One of the many highlights of his act was the “comparison” between the smartness of men and women. In his quest to prove that either gender was more intelligent, he failed. However, he succeeded in sending the audience into uproarious laughter.

Let’s just say that these jokes were for grown folks only. If you are old enough to be there and you weren’t, you missed a great opportunity to split your sides.

Will there be another Bad Boys of Comedy?

Wilson said: “Comedy is our passion, so we try to host at least 2 events per year. It attracts couples & a more mature audience. Presently in the Bahamas there are not many events that cater to that market. So we feel that is a viable and lucrative one. The next event is scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2013.”

Go ahead and preorder those tickets because laughter is the best medicine; and and the illest things that left the Rainforest that night were the band and comedic talent.
