Inclement weather brought on by Hurricane Sandy wasn't the only cause of property damage in New Providence.
Commanding officers of the Northeastern and Central Divisions, whose districts include the business areas of Palmdale and Bay Street, reported several break-ins during the passage of the storm.
According to Superintendent Theophilus Cunningham, the head of the Northeastern division, someone tossed a big rock through the glass door of the Quality Fabric Store on Mount Royal Avenue.
However, nothing was stolen. Cunningham said that intruders helped themselves to spirits from a liquor store on Wulff Road.
Superintendent Ashton Greenslade, the head of the Central Division, also reported several shop break-ins in his district, which includes Bay Street.
Greenslade said there were also complaints of stealing from cars. He said his officers arrested several persons for stealing, drug possession and other minor offenses.
