The Marley Resort and Spa (M.R.S.,) West Bay Street will welcome Kymani Marley, son of legendary musical icon Robert “Nesta” Marley on the 25th September 2010, in an intimate unplugged concert.

Kymani, who is currently on tour promoting his new book ‘Dear Dad’ (the title of which was taken from the popular song of the same name) will break his grueling tour schedule to perform at the place where his famous father and other family members vacationed for many years.

The highly anticipated event will give Bahamian fans a chance to see him up close and perhaps even ask a few questions of someone who is undoubtedly one of the more popular Marley brothers.

Kymani was in Nassau recently and spoke candidly about the resort, his humanitarian efforts, his movie career and his new book (that seemed destined to be a bestseller). He also spoke briefly about his much anticipated upcoming performance.

“I love it here; everyone has treated me very well. I am not just saying this because this is my family’s property. I really love it here. The food is also very nice. I have not encountered any problems here. It has been a wonderful experience.”

Kymani went on to speak passionately about his humanitarian efforts. “I do believe we all have a responsibility to help each other. This was how my foundation, (Love Over All Foundation) came about. “We have recently provided much needed computers for the youth of Falmouth, Jamaica which is the area were I am from. This was done with the assistance of some generous benefactors in New York.

Marley who acted in several films was quick to defend his role in Shottas, (a 2002 film about two young men who were involved in organized crime in Kingston, Jamaica and Miami, Florida.) when quizzed about the violence in the movie. He was quick to reply, “that movie is reflective of what is going on today's society, besides I’m not acting right now.”  In addition he added” My movie career is by no means finished, but for now I will concentrate on the book.”

On the subject of the book it was obvious Kymani wanted to choose his words even more carefully. He spoke slowly and fervently, in the soft monotones of someone who seemingly did not want to be misquoted. “My publisher and I parted ways for a time due to a dispute regarding the subtitle of the book.” He added “the book went into print under that subtitle. The necessary corrections have been made and the book has gone on to be reprinted.” After discussions with my sister Cedella, the publisher is now back on board and will be accompanying me on the tour.

In reference to his performance Kymani, says “I am looking forward to it, just being in town for these few days and seeing the response of the people, gives methe assurance that I can come back without any hiccups. I have performed here a few times and the people are familiar with my work.” He has four albums under his belt: Like Father Like Son, an album featuring cover versions of some of his father's songs; The Journey produced in 1999, which reached the number 7th spot on the Billboard reggae album charts; Many More Roads which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album; and Radio, hip hop feel than his previous albums and reached number one on the Billboard reggae album charts. In light of this fact reggae lovers will be hearing music that is bound to stir them up in a spellbinding mystical setting that is bound to cause them to simmer down.

Stephanie Marley, C.E.O of Marley Resort, also weighed in on the upcoming concert. “Concerts like these will become signature events here at Marley’s. Many people may never get the opportunity to really see a celebrity up close. We love to give our patrons much more than room and board but a total Marley experience. The rooms and spa at the exquisite resort is temporarily closed and will be reopened Oct 25th, 2010.
