FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - Following the year's warmest months of July and August, September was marked as the month of "Fire, Safety and Awareness".
Educating the community regarding fire safety has been the mission of the Royal Bahamas Police Force's Fire Services Division's since its inception.
In support of this mission, the Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited (GBPA) recently donated 25 smoke detectors, assisting the division to further its efforts of providing devices to families in need throughout the Grand Bahama community.
Accepting the donation was Corporal 2769 Ariscar, who expressed great appreciation for the contribution.
"First of all, we would like to thank GBPA for supporting us in this venture," he said.
"This month we celebrated fire safety and our theme was 'Saving Lives One Community at a Time'. The division purchased smoke detectors, fire extinguishers along with other safety devices, and donated them to less fortunate persons in the community."
GBPA Director of Community Relations Geneva Rutherford was delighted to make the much needed donation.
"Of late, there have been fires in numerous communities throughout the island, so this is a timely act that will hopefully help in combating future incidences," she said.
"GBPA is pleased to make this worthwhile donation. It is a tremendously commendable effort and we thank you for the great work you do throughout the island to assist in saving lives."
