Six passengers survived a plane crash in Black Point, Exuma yesterday after the landing gear of a Flamingo Air nine-seater reportedly failed, police said. Assistant Superintendent Bradley Sands, second in command of the Gregory Town Police Station, said last night that according to the pilot the plane was caught up in "extreme crosswinds" while attempting to land. He said the passengers were shaken but none were seriously injured, and did not require medical attention. The aircraft, which travelled from Staniel Cay, arrived in Black Point shortly after 10 a.m., according to Sands.

He said the aircraft slid some distance along the runway before coming to a stop, after the pilot reportedly lost control of the plane due in part to the weather conditions. "We got the call at the George Town Police Station around 10:30 a.m.," said Sands. "The matter is being [thoroughly] investigated by the officers in Black Point and we have...recorded statements from all persons on the aircraft, and the Department of Civil Aviation has been informed."

The airplane reportedly sustained some damage, although the extent is unclear. Police officials in Black Point were reluctant to comment on the incident. This crash-landing comes less than two months after another Flamingo Air nine-seater crash-landed at Staniel Cay Airport in August after the pilot reportedly lost control of the plane while attempting to land, according to police. The Cessna aircraft came to a stop in nearby bushes, just off the runaway. The passengers were treated at the local clinic for minor injuries and were later discharged.
