Call for a statue of Sir Milo Butler

Dear Editor,

In 1973 when The Bahamas became an independent nation, Sir Milo Butler became its first Bahamian governor general.
Born on August 11, 1906, he first ran for Parliament in 1937 but was defeated by Sir Harry Oakes, a multi-millionaire; originally from Canada.
His elevation to the Legislative Council that same year opened the way for a by-election in the Western District. In that election, the person who would later become Sir Milo, defeated Dr. Kenneth V.A. Rogers. He continued to represent that constituency until 1949, however, he was defeated in the general election election.
