Public Announcement Opening of the wild bird hunting season for 2012-2013

The public is reminded that in accordance with wild birds prtection order of 1994 (Under the wild birds protection act, chapter 249), the opening date of the 2012-2013 hunting season for various birds is as follows:

Saturday 15th September, 2012 for the following wild birds only:

Eurasian-collared or "Ring-necked" Dove Mourning or "Florida" Dove

Hunters are reminded that these are the only two species that can be hunted at this time, hunters should ecercise great care to avoid shooting other species. Enforcement officers will be closely monitoring hunting activity.

Saturday 29th September, 2012 for the following wild birds:

White crowned pigeon Ringed-necked pheasant Zenaida Dove Guinea Fowl Bob-white quail Chukar Partridge Wilson's or jack snipe Coot All ducks and geese except the whistling and ruddy ducks

The hunting ( that is, the capture and or killing) of all other birds is prohibited.

The public is asked to cooperate by adhering to the observance of the stated dates, as well to all other provisions of the wild birds protection act. Hunters are asked to pay careful attention to ensure that they shoot only those birds indicated above. The ministry wishes to register grave concern at the reports of illegal shooting of non listed species, and of shooting in excess of the Bag Limits.

Hunters are reminded that the bag limit is 50 birds per day. Any persons found acting on contravention to the provisions of the act will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Hon. Kenred M.A. Dorsett Minister Responsible for Wild Birds Protection
