Remands taxing manpower at police station

The workload for officers at the Central Police Station has increased dramatically over the past month, with hundreds of unsentenced inmates coming to court daily for remand,The Guardianhas learned.
By law, prison inmates who are not serving sentence must make weekly court appearances for further remand. However, before the Supreme Court gave a ruling on the remand procedure last month only about 50 inmates came tocourt daily for remand, according
to police sources. Now busloads of as many as 200 inmates are brought to court daily.
According to a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the laws are not suit ...
