Atlantis helps to raise almost three quarters of a million dollars overall for the GGYA Programme

PARADISE ISLAND: Ninety-six players took part in the 12th Annual Duke of Edinburgh Semi-Finals Charity Golf Tournament at Ocean Club Golf Course this past Sunday morning (June 24th, 2012) in support of the Governor General’s Youth Awards programme.

With the help of major sponsors like Bahamas Food Services, Tyreflex Motors, Graycliff, SunTee, and John Bull; Atlantis was able to donate $45,000.00 to the Governor General Youth Awards Program (GGYA). Over the last decade plus their collective contribution has almost hit the $750,000.00 mark.

Jack Thompson, Chairman of the National Council for GGYA, Trustee Denise Mortimer and Jason Curry all graciously accepted the cheque from Kerzner Senior VP of Public Affairs and Retail Services Ed Fields.

Speaking on behalf of the GGYA, Mr. Thompson took the opportunity to extol the hard work of the organizers and the commitment of the corporate citizens who continue to support the event.

While the considerable charitable donation is the most important aspect of the tournament, there is another major incentive for the players; a chance to represent The Bahamas at the Duke of Edinburgh Cup Finals in Windsor, Great Britain.

The tournament winners were Kit Newcombe and Jason Kingsley, representing “Team Colina Imperial” who finished with a score of 58 net.

They will be joined at the Finals by Michael Taylor and Nick Klonaris who played for “Team William Birchall” placing second with a score of 59 net. Rounding out the twosome category was Patrick Stevenson and Leroy Dames and Paul Fox and Steve Mackay in third and fourth respectively.
