Christopher Eve and Wife Frances Eve

 

He first traveled to the Bahamas November 2010 on his 99th birthday to learn more about his great-great grandfather, Joseph Eve, architect and builder of St. Matthew’s Church, publisher of The Bahamas Gazette, and inventor or the wind powered cotton gin 1788. Christopher F. Eve is still on his ancestor journey.

He is returning to Nassau, at the end of the May, to meet relatives introduced by Vera Chase. Chris will visit the 300 acres (on the southern end of Cat Island) which were sold at auction in 1800, and hopefully will find/visit the cemetery where his great-great-great grandfather, Captain Oswald Eve is buried.

He also will host luncheon on Saturday, 26th, meeting with relatives, and On Chris’ 100th birthday he and his wife, Frances, renewed their wedding vows at the same church, in Philadelphia, where Captain Eve married Anne Moore in 1744.

As a scientist and centenarian, born in Charleston, SC on November 09, 1911, he says: God is defined as the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe (Random House Dictionary). Now, I, even I, am inclined to avoid a paganism interpretation of this concept: I don’t see God as having, at any time, a particular location in space, as would any material object…rather, God is the supreme spirit, which I see as equally everywhere. This spirit is the most powerful thing there is. All that is, is; all that happens (that is creation and continuation) – in accord with this supreme spirit…which is the LAW OF NATURE. Thus, the proper worship of God is the learning of the LAW OF NATURE; the proper rituals are practices which, in the accord with THE LAWS OF NATURE, will bring peace, progress and prosperity.
