Jordan convicts 2 officials of embezzlement

AMMAN, Jordan(AP)--A Jordanian court has convicted two Agriculture Ministry officials of embezzlement and sentenced them to more than 22 years in jail each.
Amman's Criminal Court says a third employee--a woman--was convicted of aiding them by hiding the 1.6 million Jordanian Dinars($2.3 million)and received just three months.
Monday's case is part of a new anti-corruption sweep pledged by the Jordanian Prime Minister, Samir Rifai who took office last December
Last month, the agriculture minister was sacked because the case took place during his tenure, though he was not involved.
Six other ministry clerks were acquitted for lack of evidence.
