Gastronomes and wine connoisseurs are getting the opportunity to start the year off right as The Burns House Group hosts an evening of elegant dining at Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant on West Hill Street.
The five-course dinner featuring wines from the Baron Edmond de Rothschild Winery, is the first of eight wine dinners on the calendar this year. Eric Fourault, president of Fourault Wine Company (French and Argentine wines) will host the event.
"These events aren't just about going out and having dinner, it's an experience," said Therese Demeritte, old wine brand representative at Burns House Group. "We take you around the world in wines. For people who love to dine out, it's a beautiful experience -- especially if they are wine and food lovers. We take you around the world in wines."
During the dinner, Fourault will speak to diners about the showcased wines, and why they were paired with the foods. Diners are able to ask questions and learn about the components that make the wine and food pair together.
At tonight's Graycliff dinner, patrons will indulge in grilled provoletta with chorizo sausage, which will be paired with Aguaribay Malbec -- Baron Ed. De Rothschild; faro pasta casino di carprafico shrimp with pancetta and leeks paired with Chateau Malmaisson; roasted duck with green peppercorn sauce with sautéed fresh vegetables paired with Chateau Clarke (Listrac Medoc Appellation); gourmet cheeses with membrillo and wild honey paired with Flechas de los Andes Gran Malbec Reserva; affogato di vanilla alla vodka e melone and coffee and tea. The five-course meal is offered at $100 per person and includes a gift bottle of wine.
Burns House started hosting the dinners as a way to add value to their wine club membership at an affordable price. It also proved to be an opportunity for consumers to taste the company's wines, and work with the restaurants. So the dinners are more than just about going out and having dinner, but about the experience, so Burns House selects restaurants to host dinners that they know can handle the event.
"For people who love to dine out, it's a beautiful experience, especially if they are wine and food lovers. If you've not experienced a wine dinner, you should because it's drawn out, great company, and you learn about the components that make wine and food pair together.
Seating for the event is limited. RSVPs are accepted via return e-mail or by contacting Therese Demeritte at 397-1454. Tickets can be purchased at Butler & Sands, JFK Drive head office; Bahamas Wine & Spirit, Shirley Street; Butler & Sands, Harbour Bay Shopping Plaza and Butler & Sands at Caves Village, West Bay Street.
