Congratulations go out to 10-year-old Savannah Brady for her outstanding accomplishments in the sport of gymnastics.
On January 27, young Brady with her coach Lavette Saunders, attended the Sun & Surf Spectacular Gymnastics Invitational in Coral Springs, Florida. Brady performed exceptionally well. The Sun & Surf Spectacular Gymnastics Invitational is one of the many meets hosted by Twister Gymnastics Club which is located in Ft. Lauderdale. This popular meet attracted 30 gymnastics clubs representing over 600 athletes. Brady was the token gymnast representing Nassau 'Nastics at this meet and she competed along with 14 other gymnasts in her age division, at USAG Level 6, level 10 being the highest level followed by elite.
This is Brady's first season competing as a level 6 gymnast. She began the season at the Atlantis Crown Invitational which was held here in The Bahamas at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort from December 16-18, 2011. Club Head Coach Trevor Ramsey said: "First meets can be very difficult for our gymnasts, especially those who do not have the opportunity to travel abroad consistently to attend gymnastics competitions and this was made quite apparent by her scores at the Atlantis Crown Invitational."
Brady's performance earned her an 8.3 on vault, 8.0 on the balance beam, 8.0 on the floor and a disappointing 5.4 on the uneven bars giving her an all around score at the Atlantis Crown of 29.775.
However, after her first warm-up meet here at home, Brady, now with a newer realization of how much work she had to do in a short amount of time, resumed training at her gym at Nassau 'Nastics. Brady was determined to do better at her next meet, which is exactly what she did. She raised her overall score to 33.20.
"I was so happy with my bar score because I really wanted to do better than I did at my last competition, and I did," she said. At the Sun & Surf Spectacular gymnastics meet, Brady scored 8.3 on the vault, on the beam she scored 8.4, on the floor she scored 8.6 and on the bars she scored 7.9, which was a great improvement from the 5.4 bar score at the Atlantis Crown Invitational.
Brady's coach, Lavette Saunders, was very proud of her performances at the Sun & Surf Spectacular Invitational.
"Savannah came down with a temperature of 103 on the day of the competition and we were not sure if she was going to pull through. I asked Savannah if she would be able to compete and she said in a determined voice that she didn't come all this way for nothing. I was so proud of her."
Brady will also be attending the Gasparilla Classics in Tampa, Florida from February 24-26. She and her mother Michelle Brady have also made plans to attend the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England this summer.
