The employee council at the Freeport Container Port (FCP) donated 14 sets of uniforms to the senior boys basketball team at Eight Mile Rock High School. The Eight Mile Rock Blue Jays, which consists of high school students around the ages of 15 and 16, also benefited from moral support and guidance provided by employee council members. The basketball team was wished best of luck by a dynamic council, which is represented by many graduates from the Eight Mile Rock High School.
The employee council has gained a reputation as a forward looking group that is not only focused on employee rights and conditions under which they work, but has also played a pivotal role in advancing ideas to help improve the overall operation of the company. Several adjustments in standard operating procedures have come about due to their input in recent years. As a result of this kind gesture, the council will also add to its credit the role of mentor to young people who are potential leaders.
The employee council consists of 10 non-management employees of the FCP who provide an operational framework for discussions and communication of issues and activities relating to the staff of Freeport Container Port, and support and donate to school charities, organizations and the local communities. Council members include Chairman Trevor Smith, Vice Chairman Stanford Farrington, Treasurer Lorraine Edgecombe, Secretary Johnnette Johnson, Advisor Lisa Gibson, Tashana Farrington, Rosalee Joseph, Judith Roberts, Dwayne Pratt and Angelo Lockhart.
The uniforms have the logo "Freeport Container Port" on the back and "Blue Jays" on the front. It is expected that this would be a long lasting relationship. The FCP Employee Council members are happy to engage in community outreach initiatives, and in the process, provide needed help and leadership.
The school itself has a number of recent accomplishments: High School Tip-Off Classic Champions (2011-2012}; and Catholic High School Christmas Basketball Tournament Champions (2010 and 2011).
