Nearly 2,300 persons, representing 20 countries, participated in the 2012 Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend, January 14 and 15.  A total of 1,333 persons registered for the 5K Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure on Saturday morning, and 958 participated in Sunday's 2012 Marathon Bahamas.These figures are up from last year's numbers of 1,100 and 794 respectively. Participating in Sunday's marathon were 147 full marathoners, 561 half marathoners, and 50 relay teams, including a special 50-person Rotary Relay Team. The Rotary Club in The Bahamas celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The winners are as follows:

Overall Male Winner - Bob Gallagher (20 minutes, 50 seconds)
Overall Female Winner - Kelly Kerr (24 minutes, 58 seconds)

FULL MARATHON
Winner - Bryan Huberty (2:42:53) - USA
2nd place - Sidney Collie (2:47:40) - BAH
3rd place/overall female winner - Angela Cobb (3:00:17) - USA
HALF MARATHON
Overall Winner - Cobi Morales (1: 17:00) - USA
Overall Female Winner - Jessica Crate (1:21:47) - USA
2nd place - David Ferguson (1:20:32) - BAH
3rd place - Mackey Williams (1:21:29) - BAH
RELAY MARATHON
Overall Winners - Team Bahamadrie (3:31:29)
 
Brian Moodie, President of Marathon Bahamas, and Sunshine Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Ltd., the lead sponsor, thanked everyone who contributed to this year's success, especially the sponsors, participants, and the 400 plus volunteers. Proceeds will benefit four charities: The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and The Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative. The Sunshine Insurance 2013 Race Weekend will be held over the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend, January 19 and 20, 2013. Registration will begin May 1, 2012.
