A quarter of voter's cards collected so far

Twenty-five percent of people registered to vote have already collected their voter's cards, according to Parliamentary Commissioner Errol Bethel.
When asked if 25 percent was a good percentage thus far, Bethel replied, "Well it is steady, but it could have been more."
The distribution of voter's cards started last week Monday.
Bethel said approximately 145,000 Bahamians have registered to vote so far.  That's about 5,000 people fewer than the total number registered in the 2007 election.
But he said, "The way we are going we will pass that in very short order."
He said he expects this growth because Bahamians can now come in, register and pick up their cards on the same day.
"And they know now that election is near also," he added.
Speaking at the launch of his party's campaign in Grand Bahama on Sunday, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham encouraged voters who have not yet done so to register to vote.
Bethel said that anyone can come in to Kendal G. L. Isaacs National Gymnasium and expect to be served in a reasonable time.
"This week we are not doing a breakdown.  We are asking [all] people...to come in.  It doesn't matter where your name falls alphabetically, just come in and get your cards because we are set up in such a way that any [number] of people could come and get served in a reasonable time," he said.
According to Bethel, nearly 100,000 cards are available for collection.
Bethel said Bahamians should continue to register, noting also that if there are any errors regarding their voter's cards, they could be corrected right there and then.
Voter's cards can be picked up at the gymnasium between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
