Guardian the best Bahamian newspaper

Dear Editor,

I am writing you to congratulate Erica Wells and The Nassau Guardian on becoming the best newspaper in the country.  Wells is a Bahamian - compared to The Tribune, which seems afraid to make a Bahamian its managing editor.  For some reason they prefer British editors rather than Bahamians and prefer a tabloid mindset that is a disgrace to good journalism.

The tabloid mentality at The Tribune was in full force last week when they were inaccurate and sloppy in reporting that Verna Grant and Kendal Wright were resigning from the government.  It appears that The Guardian abided by good standards and did not go beyond what it could accurately report.  Having been embarrassed by The Guardian's better reporting and scoops, including WikiLeaks, The Tribune is now desperate.  The desperation and its tabloid and down-market approach have massively eroded the journalistic quality of what used to be a good newspaper.

The Guardian is not near perfect by any means.  But it is much better than most.  If it continues to improve it will become the newspaper people turn to for accurate news, while The Tribune will continue to sink into a tabloid paper with reporting one has to check for reliability and accuracy.

Today I tell my Bahamian friends and my international clients that the best paper to read is The Guardian.  Just a few years ago I told tell them that it was The Tribune.
Once lost, it is hard to regain a good reputation, which The Tribune has now lost.
