T'Auren Moss did what many Bahamian swimmers just dream of doing - win a medal at an international swimming event. Not only did he win a medal, but the 16-year old St. Augustine's College student and member of the Sea Bees Swim Club won the coveted gold medal in the 50 meter (m) butterfly in the annual Florida Gold Coast Winter Swimming Championships.

Moss demonstrated that he is at the top of his age group in the region, as he led the pack in the 50m fly, swimming a preliminary time of 23.24 seconds, shaving a whopping 6.67 seconds from his seed time of 29.91 going into the race. Moss dominated the final, dropping his time even further and winning the gold medal in a time of 23.11 seconds.

Moss traveled to Plantation, Florida, to compete in the meet where teams from Florida and The Bahamas competed. He was the only swimmer from The Bahamas to make the final in his age group in this year's 50 and 100m butterfly events. Moss was less than one second shy of winning a medal in the 100m butterfly, coming a close fourth.

Moss is no stranger in competing in international events. He was part of the team which traveled to Puerto Rico this past summer for the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Federation (CCCAN) Swimming Championships where he swam personal best times in the 50 and 100m fly. He captured the silver medal in the 50 fly. He also competed in the FINA Junior World Championships held in Peru, where he swam a personal best in the 100m free. Moss has represented The Bahamas in the past four CARIFTA Swimming Championships. He won a bronze medal at this year's CARIFTA Championships.

Moss' focus now is achieving the qualifying time for the London Olympics in 100m butterfly, and he is getting closer and closer to that qualifying time every time he competes. The Sea Bees Swim Club trains at the College of The Bahamas and is coached by Lucas Leite.
