'Spectacular' Events For Nassau Anniversary

THE 150th anniversary of the City of Nassau and the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos will be celebrated through a series of "spectacular" events, according to the organisers.

At a press conference in Rawson Square yesterday – held in front of the statue of Queen Victoria as tribute to the monarch who ordained Christ Church a Cathedral in 1861 – Secretary to the Cabinet Anita Bernard called on Bahamians to learn about the history of their capital city.

She said that while "it would take the whole afternoon to explain the events that led to the City of Nassau," Queen Victoria’s decree was the main factor.
