Next BUT president 'could represent the union majority vote'

THE next president of the Bahamas Union of Teachers could represent the majority vote of the entire union, according to union secretary general Stephen McPhee.

Unlike the last election which saw four candidates fight for the top spot of the 4,000-strong union, this year's race has only two approved candidates: incumbent Belinda Wilson and former area vice president Francis Friend.

Mr McPhee explained with just two presidential candidates, the victor would have to obtain the majority from votes cast by the entire union, rather than simply receiving more votes than all the other candidates.
