MINISTER REVEALS MONEY SPENT ON SCHOOL UNIFORMS AND LUNCH PROGRAMMES

LARGE sums of money have been spent this year on school uniforms and lunch programmes for children of low income families, Minister of Social Services Loretta Butler-Turner said.

Addressing claims that the government has not given enough assistance to struggling families, Mrs Butler-Turner outlined in parliament a comprehensive report of the government's expenditure and the number of applications for assistance received and approved.

The Department of Social Services recorded an expenditure of $338,207 this year on its uniform assistance programme.

In Nassau alone, 2,770 children received uniforms from the government.
