BTC DIRECTORY FEE 7 HIGHER THAN REGION'S

THE BAHAMAS TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY'S (BTC) proposed 35 cents per call charge for accessing directory inquiries is higher than the average 32.64 cents per call obtained in a benchmarking exercise featuring other Caribbean jurisdictions in which its majority shareholder operates.

Unveiling the public consultation on BTC's proposed charges, the Utilities Regulation & Competition Authority (URCA) criticised the newly-privatised carrier for the "paucity of information" it provided to justify the fee or the costs it incurred in providing the service.
