Bahamasair Management signs Five-Year Industrial Agreement with BALPA

The Management at the country’s National Flag Carrier, Bahamasair and The Bahamas Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) signed a five-year Industrial Agreement worth a little over $500,000 at the flag carrier’s administrative office on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Managing Director, Bahamasair, Tracy Cooper explained that this contract is an updated version of the previous one that expired in 2022.  

He noted that a good portion of 2023 was spent in negotiations.

BALPA President, Mark Johnson said Management and the Association have agreed to increase the retirement age of pilots to 65.  The Management at Bahamasair sought to extend its longstanding mandatory pilot retirement age of 60 to retain valuable expertise and facilitate a smoother transition in leadership.

BALPA represents 68 pilots.

Chairman of Bahamasir, Tanya Pratt thanked both sides for being able to come together to successfully complete another agreement.
