The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) announces their annual Cuban Pig Roast, happening on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at The Maillis Farm in Adelaide, New Providence. This year, the fundraising event will support the development and management of the new Seahorse National Park. Declared on September 7th, 2023, Seahorse National Park at Sweetings Pond and Hatchet Bay Caves in Eleuthera is the newest addition to The Bahamas’ national park system. The park protects Sweetings Pond, which is home to the densest population of seahorses in the world. Additionally, it protects the historic Hatchet Bay Cave, one of the longest cave systems in The Bahamas. Following its declaration, Seahorse National Park is poised to be transformed into a world-renowned national park and a blueprint for sustainable recreation and tourism.

The Cuban Pig Roast is the BNT’s annual flagship fundraising event, inspired by the joyous gatherings of family and friends in Cuba who unite in celebration and cheer. Similarly, the BNT’s Pig Roast promises an atmosphere of camaraderie during an evening filled with delightful buffet-style dining from Events by Alexandra, premium cocktail bars, live entertainment, a fundraising auction, and a chance to win exciting raffle prizes.

Historically, every Pig Roast event supported a different BNT priority conservation project or initiative. Pig Roast 2023 was one of the most successful yet, raising more than $150,000 towards the development of a Welcome Centre at Moriah Harbour Cay National Park in Exuma. Pig Roast 2022 raised $100,000 for flamingo conservation at the Inagua National Park.

This year, every dollar raised will contribute to the development and management of Seahorse National Park in Eleuthera.

BNT Executive Director Lakeshia Anderson-Rolle said: “Pig Roast 2024 offers an unparalleled opportunity for members of the community to contribute directly to the conservation and sustainable development of a natural gem. From preserving fragile habitats and conducting critical scientific research, to fostering community involvement and crafting responsible experiences for visitors - every aspect of Seahorse National Park's journey toward success depends on public support.

“We invite everyone to participate - whether it’s by purchasing individual tickets, corporate tables, or making donations. All will be instrumental in shaping Seahorse National Park into a beacon of sustainability and a source of worldwide admiration. Together, we look forward to establishing a world-renowned national park from its inception.”
