The choices made and circumstances faced by young men can lead to dysfunctional behavior, extreme tempers and, in some cases, their mandated residency at the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys. In its mission to rehabilitate, the correctional and residential facility aims to change the lives of its residents by instilling habits of courage, discipline and self-respect through various programs.

The young men will also participate in group counselling sessions with Dr. Barrington Brennen funded by CIBC FirstCaribbean. The bank’s donation to Simpson Penn Centre for Boys made in recognition of International Men’s Day also went to operational costs.

CIBC FirstCaribbean Managing Director, Dr. Jacqui Bend said, “We recognize the crucial role mental health plays in overall well-being. Our commitment to supporting initiatives like group counselling sessions at the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys reflects our dedication to fostering a healthier and more connected society.

“We believe that by investing in mental health resources, we contribute to the strength and vitality of individuals, families and communities at large."

Counselling Psychologist Dr. Barrington Brennen said, “The intention is for residents to learn new skills and understand why they behaved the way they did or thought the way they thought in the past. We are hoping to give them insight to have a brighter future with a more positive outlook.

“I believe that when corporate organizations like CIBC FirstCaribbean get involved, it helps the wider community to understand that we must all be a part of change.”
