Expansion of Youth Led Drug Prevention Program Celebrated

The Ministry of Health & Wellness’, Bahamas National Drug Council is pleased to announce the expansion of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) prevention program with the addition of two new schools, R.M. Bailey and C.C. Sweeting High Schools. This builds on the success of the 2022 inaugural initiative that saw C.R. Walker and Anatol Rodgers High Schools join the SADD National Chapter.

Mr. Colin Higgs, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health & Wellness congratulatedthe students and schools participating in the SADD program. "The Ministry remainssteadfast in its commitment to investing in the well-being and empowerment of our youththrough programs that not only promote healthy lifestyles but also cultivate a culture ofresponsible decision-making."

Dr. Novia Carter-Lookie, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Bahamas National DrugCouncil also commended both students and schools for their enthusiastic participation,stating that, “This initiative plays a vital role in shaping the future leaders of The Bahamasby promoting awareness and resilience against destructive behaviours.”

This weekend, under the theme: “Engaging Youth in Prevention” National SADD memberswill also participate in a Youth Leadership Seminar and Church Service.

SADD is a prevention program that promotes youth development and empowers studentsto get involved in leading their peers toward good decision-making. Further, SADD providesa supportive environment for many young people to follow a healthy lifestyle. It also providesan opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, engage in service-learning, andserve as agents for change in their school communities.
