Ministers of the Davis Administration came together in Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama on Tuesday, and in doing so, made history: the meeting marked the first time the Cabinet of The Bahamas convened there.

This was the second meeting of Cabinet in Grand Bahama this year; the May meeting was held in Freeport.

The Cabinet meeting focused on new investments, ongoing capital works on the island, and efforts to provide relief and opportunity to Grand Bahamians.

“With more than $1.5 billion dollars of new and expanded investments coming to Grand Bahama, we will see new job opportunities, new opportunities for entrepreneurs, and the beginning of an economic revival that has been long awaited,” Prime Minister Davis said.

The investments include a major expansion of the Grand Bahama Shipyard, a new eco-resort in West Grand Bahama, and a new Carnival Cruise Port.

Members of Cabinet came together earlier this month to open the new Obadiah H. Wilchcombe administrative complex in West Grand Bahama, which provides local access to essential government services, including social services, the police, the courts, passport services, the library, a post office, and more.

Pending works in Grand Bahama include a new school in Holmes Rock, a new hospital, the rebuilding of the police station, and a series of home repairs.  

Prior to attending Cabinet, Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis joined Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin for breakfast with the students of Holmes Rock Primary School. The school is included in the national school breakfast pilot programme, which provides free hot breakfast for primary school students.

“The dignity and decision-making power of the Cabinet of The Bahamas is greatly fortified by these visits.  In holding our discussions here, we shine a spotlight and bring a focus to the issues, challenges and opportunities that affect Grand Bahamians,” Prime Minister Davis added.
