Bahamas First Holdings names new CEO of flagship insurer

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Bahamas First Holdings Limited (BFH) announced the promotion of Richard A. Darville to CEO of Bahamas First General Insurance Company, the Group's flagship insurer, effective 9 November 2023. 

Darville was previously Vice President – Claims & Support Services for Bahamas First General and has been with the Group for more than 30 years.

In this new role, Darville will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for BFG, ensuring its continuous growth and sustainability, as well as overseeing its day-to-day operations. BFH, in a press release, said that it hopes the appointment will further consolidate its position as the leading general insurer in The Bahamas. 

Darville began his career in insurance in 1992 in the Underwriting Department at Group subsidiary NUA Insurance Agents & Brokers. Following a brief period with Security & General between 1997 and 1998, he returned to NUA as Commercial Lines Manager before transitioning to Bahamas First General in 2010 as Group Claims Manager. In 2014, he was appointed Vice President of Claims & Support Services. 

Darville earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Leicester and holds the Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) and Chartered Manager (CMgr) designation. He is an Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada (AIIC) and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI). He has served the local industry as a Founding Member and former Treasurer of the Insurance Institute of The Bahamas, former Deputy Chair of the Bahamas Insurance Association (BIA) and as a member of the BIA Claims Committee. He has also served as a Director of The Nassau Institute and as Treasurer of The Health Professions Council of The Bahamas.
