DISTURBANCE’S CHANCE OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE IS DECREASING

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the islands of the Southeast Bahamas. This includes the islands of Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay, Samana Cay, Ragged Island, Mayaguana, and Inagua.

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the entire Turks and Caicos Islands.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm conditions could be experienced in thementioned area within 48 hours.

At 11am EST, the Disturbance was centered near Latitude 17.5 degrees north and Longitude 79.1degrees west, or about 155 miles West-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica, 430 miles southwest ofMatthew Town Inagua, 535 miles southwest of Providenciales, Turk and Caicos, and 535 milessouth-southwest of Nassau.

The system is moving toward the northeast near 14 mph and an additional acceleration toward thenortheast is expected through the weekend. On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected tomove across Jamaica later today, Southeastern Cuba by early Saturday, and the Southeastern Bahamasand Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possibleduring the next couple of days, but the system’s chance of becoming a tropical cyclone appears to bedecreasing.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-two is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 incheswith isolated amounts of up to 4 to 6 inches and possible Tropical Storm winds over the SoutheastBahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday. Residents in these islands should beginpreparing for possible Tropical Storm winds and flooding beginning on Saturday.
