Torrential showers and severe thunderstorms associated with a broad area of low pressure located over the west-central Caribbean Sea, south of Jamaica have become a little better organized since yesterday.  Environmental conditions are conducive for some additional development, and a tropical depression could form later today (Thursday, 16th November) or early tomorrow morning (Friday, 17thNovember). The low-pressure system is forecast to move northeastward towards Jamaica, Haiti, Eastern Cuba, the Southeast Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Regardless of development, this system is expected to produce severe thunderstorms that will generate gusty winds and torrential rainfall, leading to extensive flooding in parts of the Southeast Bahamas and the Turks Islands this weekend.

Interests in the Southeast Bahamas, which include Acklins, Crooked Island, Ragged Island, Mayaguana, and Inagua, along with the Turks and Caicos Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

A Tropical Storm Alert may be issued for the Southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands as early as tomorrow morning.

Residents in the Southeast Bahamas and the Turks Caicos Islands should now complete their seasonal hurricane preparation, if they have not already done so.  Loose items around home and property should be removed and/or properly secured, as they may become flying debris, creating to damage windows and doors.
