On September 7th, an almost-decade-long effort for the protection of Sweetings Pond in Eleuthera finally succeeded, with the official designation of “Seahorse National Park at Sweetings Pond and Hatchet Bay Cave” under the management of The Bahamas National Trust.

The land-locked saltwater pond in Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera has many unique natural features - perhaps most notable of all being its incredible seahorse population, which is believed to be the densest in the world.

Years of public outreach, stakeholder consultations, science and research efforts, education presentations, government engagement - and your support through it all -  have led to this monumental moment. We couldn’t be more thrilled to share this special achievement with you.
