A man who worked at the Department of Information Technology (DIT) at the Office of the Prime Minister has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after a cache of guns and ammunition were found in his apartment.

A team of officers seized eight pistols and 979 rounds of ammunition when they raided 35-year-old Carlson Pinder's home in Sunset Park, New Providence, on September 28.

Pinder pleaded guilty to charges of possession of firearms with intent to supply, possession of ammunition with intent to supply, possession of component parts of a firearm and possession of ammunition at his arraignment before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley on Tuesday.

When the police arrived, Pinder showed them where the contraband was hidden. He also told the officers that his 33-year-old cousin, Cordario Lewis, and a 13-year-old boy didn't have anything to do with the illegal items.

Pinder allegedly found the contraband on a deceased's friend's property in Love Hill, Andros, about a week before the police raid.

Pinder had no prior convictions.

Lewis, who reportedly traveled from Andros to New Providence to take an exam and search for a job, and the teen, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sergeant 3300 Cordero Farrington, said he didn't object to their release on bail but asked for strict reporting conditions until a decision was made on whether they will still be prosecuted.

Tonique Lewis suggested that they be released on their own recognizance, given the circumstances of the case.

Reckley set bail for each defendant at $2,500 with no reporting conditions.

They return to court on October 25 for a status hearing.
