Police investigating road death

Grand Bahama police continue to investigate the death of a 33-year-old man in Holmes Rock on September 9.

Police were called around 5 a.m. by a distraught motorist who had rolled over an object in the middle of the road and, after stopping to investigate, discovered it was the body of a man. The local doctor visited the scene, examined the body, and found no signs of life. Police said the victim is a resident of Eight Mile Rock who had a history of mental illness.

Armed robber hijacks car at Xanadu Beach

Police were called to Xanadu Beach on the evening of September 9 by a couple who said they were forced from their car by an armed man who took off in the vehicle, a 2010 dark red Ford Focus. Police said they were called shortly after 9 p.m. by the couple who said they were sitting in the car when they were approached by a dark, slim man wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun. They said the vehicle was recovered and a suspect arrested and charged.

Police raids net a gun, ammunition, drugs and three arrests

Police say shortly before 8 a.m. on September 15, officers attached to the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed a search warrant at a home in Jones Town, Eight Mile Rock. They said several men outside the residence fled inside when the police vehicle approached. Once on the inside, officers searched the home and discovered a small amount of marijuana in a plastic bag. The drugs weighed two ounces and was valued at $120. Three men, ages 33, 29 and 23 were taken into custody.

At 1:15 p.m. that same day, DEU officers, acting on intelligence, executed a search warrant at a house on Frobisher Drive. While searching outside the house, they recovered a loaded firearm and about 15 ounces of marijuana with an estimated value of $979. Officers returned to the Frobisher Drive home the following day, searched inside and found marijuana with an estimated value of $300. Two men, ages 45 and 51, were arrested.

Ammunition turned in to police

Police on Grand Bahama were given 12 rounds of live ammunition by a 38-year-old Eight Mile Rock man who told them he recovered it after fighting with a man who attempted to shoot him. Police said the Hanna Hill man came into the police station around 2:30 p.m. on September 16. He said he and a man he knew got into an argument and that the man left and later returned with a firearm and tried to shoot him, but the gun malfunctioned and he managed to get hold of the ammunition while his assailant fled with the weapon.

Drug arrest at airport

A 27-year-old man was arrested at Grand Bahama's airport on September 16 after he was found with a quantity of marijuana.

Two seriously wounded in separate stabbings on Grand Bahama and Abaco

Police are investigating two separate stabbings that happened on Grand Bahama and Abaco on September 14.

In the first incident, police said a 22-year-old man was at a home in the Sunrise Park area of Freeport, around 8 p.m. when he was involved in a fight with a man.

The victim was stabbed in the chest and back. He was taken to hospital where his injuries were listed as serious. Police said a 25-year-old-man surrendered and is assisting with the investigation.

In the second incident, Abaco police say a 64-year-old man was left with wounds to his arm and stomach after he was stabbing during fight around 9 p.m. at a business in Cooper's Town.

No injuries in Abaco crash landing

Officials are investigating the emergency crash landing of a small plane on Abaco on September 10. Police said that sometime around 4:10 p.m. the pilot of a Piper aircraft was inbound to Marsh Harbour from Eleuthera, with four passengers onboard when the plane began to experience engine failure. The pilot managed to land the plane in bushes near Spring City, south of the Marsh Harbour Airport. No one was injured.
