NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Recently released serial sex offender Sidney Cooper had to be taken into police protective custody yesterday after area residents armed with rocks, bottles and a cutlass converged on his Coconut Grove home, suspecting him of having attempted to abduct a young girl in the area.

Police have indicated that they are seeking the public's assistance in locating a "tall, bald-headed, bright male," who attempted to abduct a twelve 12-year-old girl on Thursday. According to reports, shortly before 9 am the child was walking on Fourth Street, Coconut Grove when she was approached by the man, who was wearing a blue hooded jacket.

Residents, assuming the culprit was Sidney Cooper, converged at his residence on Fifth Street, Coconut Grove. Police revealed that the perpetrator involved in this incident was not Cooper; however, Cooper was escorted from his residence by police yesterday without incident for his safety.

Cooper, 47, who has been described as a "serial groper" was released from The Bahamas Department of Corrections last week and has a laundry list of convictions for indecent assault dating back to 2000. His most recent conviction was in 2019.

During a press conference last week, National Security Minister Wayne Munroe told reporters that he deemed 47-year-old Sidney Cooper a significant threat to public health and safety.
