Graycliff Restaurant bestowed with prestigious Wine Spectator 2023 Grand Award

Graycliff Restaurant has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Wine Spectator Grand Award. The achievement marks the 35th consecutive year that Graycliff has been honored with the recognition, recognizing it as a global leader in exceptional wine programs.

Graycliff officials said they were delighted to be recognized among the Grand Award honorees as the restaurant celebrates its 50th anniversary.

"This 35th anniversary of winning the Grand Award is an incredibly gratifying milestone for us," said Grayclff CEO Enrico Garzaroli.

"It is a testament to the passion and commitment we have for curating an extraordinary wine selection and providing our guests with an unforgettable dining experience."

The Grand Award, the program's highest honor, is the ultimate recognition for restaurants with world-class wine programs. This hard-to-achieve award is bestowed upon restaurants that show unwavering passion and perseverance in strategically building thoughtful, impeccable wine programs, then maintaining and even growing them year after year.

These wine lists, which typically have 1,000 or more selections, deliver an incredibly thorough range of leading wineries and outstanding depth in mature vintages, along with bottles in multiple sizes. Along with superior presentation of their wine lists and excellent harmony with their menus, these restaurants offer the highest level of wine service. Wine Spectator reviewers inspect all candidates for the Grand Award to evaluate the overall dining experience and cellar conditions.

Graycliff Restaurant is one of 93 Grand Award winners.

To determine winners, Wine Spectator rigorously assesses each Grand Award candidate, conducting independent, on-site inspections of the wine program, cellar, service, ambiance, and cuisine. Out of over 30,000 restaurants that apply each year, Graycliff's consistent recognition among the world's best wine programs.

Graycliff is one of four Bahamian restaurants on Wine Spectator's 2023 list. The restaurant along with Café Boulud at Rosewood Baha Mar, Flying Fish GastroBar in Grand Bahama, and Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chophouse at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar are also among the Award of Excellence winners.

The Award of Excellence is given to restaurants offering well-curated with approximately 90 selections or more. The lists feature quality producers and wines that diners wouldn't easily find at local wine stores and drink at home. The wine selections also match the restaurant's cuisine in both style and pricing, giving guests a well-rounded experience.

This year, 2,001 restaurants achieved the Award of Excellence.

All award winners are also featured in the August 31, 2023, issue of Wine Spectator.

Since its first Wine Spectator accolade, the Best of Award of Excellence, in 1986, Graycliff Restaurant officials say they have continuously pushed the boundaries of excellence.

In 1988, Graycliff made history by becoming the first restaurant outside the United States to be honored with the coveted Grand Award.

Their dedication to maintaining exceptional standards and delivering an unforgettable wine experience has been a passion shared by Graycliff's CEO, Enrico Garzaroli, and the restaurant's team of sommeliers.

Wine Spectator's Restaurant Awards began in 1981 with just 13 restaurants receiving Grand Awards for their wine lists. Graycliff Restaurant's continuous presence in the elite group underscores its dedication to delivering an outstanding wine program. This recognition is a testament to the restaurant's serious breadth of top producers, exceptional depth in mature vintages, an extensive selection of large-format bottles, impeccable harmony with the menu, and superior presentation.

Graycliff Restaurant's dining experience blends Bahamian specialties with European cuisine. At the heart of its success lies the renowned wine cellar, boasting an impressive collection of over 275,000 bottles and more than 6,500 selections from 20 countries, curated over decades by Garzaroli.

Graycliff's cellar is one of the largest private collections in the world.
