DAEGU, South Korea - Bahamian Doyle Burrows might not have received the International Association of Athletic Federations' (IAAF) Veterans Pin this year, but he isn't letting that deter him from carrying out his duties here in Daegu, South Korea, and assisting in any way that he can.

The Bahamas Associations of Athletic Associations' (BAAA) technical director and facilities consultant back home, has been involved in track and field for over half of a century, working tediously behind the scene and lending his expertise where possible.

He was nominated yet again for the pin at the 46th IAAF Congress which was held last week, but according to reports, it was awarded to another Bahamian, the legendary Keith Parker who could not be here in Daegu due to contracting the dengue fever.

"Well, it's been an ongoing process for the past 10 years but I haven't been fortunate to actually be presented with it," said Burrows. "It hasn't affected my spirit at all, but after 51 years you would hope that you would be recognized. My love for track and field is still 100 percent and that won't change.

"From what I understand, the list was cut down to about three or four people so I didn't get it but that is not going to stop me from making my contribution and stop my passion for the sport.

"I have two passions - one is Junkanoo and the other one is sports. I've been doing it for so long that it becomes a part of you. I still love to do it. The energy level isn't there like it once was but I am still able to be effective."

Burrows said that as long as he is physically able to continuing doing what he is doing, he will continue to make his contribution. He's taken a keen interest in the facilities here in Daegu, taking notice of what can be done to improve in that area back home.

"Well, that's what I do. I observe facilities and see how we can improve our own facilities especially since we have that new stadium. Somebody has to present ideas on how to maintain it," he said.

As far as the team's performance is concerned, Burrows said that he was extremely proud of the efforts of the athletes in their respective events. He said that their efforts might not have been reflected in the results but added that he's certain that they all performed at their best which is all that could be asked from them.
