Police said yesterday a woman was injured when officers shot at a pitbull outside a Sunshine Park home and the bullet ricocheted off the dog and hit her.

Police reported that they were attempting to execute a search warrant at a home on Park Court Street shortly before noon.

As officers entered the property, the pitbull reportedly attempted to attack them and was subsequently shot, according to police.

They said that during the incident, the 27-year-old woman, who frequents the property, was shot to the upper body.

EMS personnel transported her to hospital where she was in serious but stable condition, police said.

Police did not specify what the search warrant related to.
