Exuma native Shem Bodie Neilly is giving back to the Bahamian community in a special way this summer. In less than two weeks, women will gather for “Life’s Chapter Real Talk” at Margaritaville Beach Resort during an intimate conference under the theme #NoBreaksJustPowerHer.

Through her non-profit organization, Ladies With Chapters, Neilly is committed to using the power of stories to inspire women of various ages. The event, which will be hosted by local talent Rika C., is a platform for participants to have discussions, be empowered, and leave feeling motivated.

“With all the demands that society has placed on women, we often find ourselves overwhelmingly shaken, broken, shattered, tried, and tested. We rarely have the opportunity to recharge and reset ourselves. It's events like these that help to pour into our cups, empty or half full. We all need it,” said Neilly.

Specialty speakers include international guests such as Secily Wilson, Michelle Cadore, Whitney House, Rosena Duncanson, and Christina Burrows-Cleare.

Neilly noted, “When women step out into the world, many of us are only seen for our outward appearance. However, we all share something special, we all have a story. Our lives are made up of many chapters.”

Neilly added, “Ladies With Chapters was cultivated from the humble upbringing of my life. I continue to challenge myself professionally and personally. I've pushed through many obstacles and was faced with many life adversities to be where I am today. My passion and purpose have allowed me to use my voice to help inspire women, building a platform so they too can have a voice to share their story. Most importantly reminding them that there is strength in vulnerability and that each story is meant to be shared. Stories have strength and they too can concur and persevere.”

Though now based in Orlando, Florida, Neilly explained that it was important to her to host the conference in The Bahamas.

“As a Bahamian woman, I know firsthand how our strength can be tested.  We rarely have the opportunity to recharge, reset and pour into ourselves. Today, maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes a lot of resilience and willpower and I am happy to play a small role in helping to reenergize and reinvigorate women.”

Also aware of the heavy price tag usually associated with women's events, Neilly was likewise committed to making the conference, which will feature a buffet-style dinner, affordable.

"An extravagant and elegant event can be so out of reach for the women who need it most. My goal is to create an empowering and inspiring event at a reasonable cost but with the same high-quality speakers and atmosphere”, she said.

The theme #NoBreaksJustPowerHer relates to a woman being able to tap into the power that lies within her. It means using personal power and is a reminder that our strength is within us, to keep going and never quit on our God-given purpose. It also tugs on a woman’s ability to identify what her purpose is and how to tap into it.

The conference will be a channel for “real, deep talk and personal discussions”. While there will be a keynote speaker and panel, participants will be able to ask questions and give feedback as they learn. All women over the age of 18, but especially between 25-30 years old are encouraged to attend. Those above the 30-year-old mark are likewise invited to not only gain from the conference but can connect with those younger and share key life lessons, and how they have conquered.
