Are you feeling defeated because you see no way out and no hope left? Is your back against the wall, your night is dark and long, and you are crying and praying for daybreak?
As you read, are your financial wine pots empty, making you frustrated and embarrassed?
Cheer up! Your night is over and your morning is here.
It is almost payday and there are so many irons in the fire. The children are in need of graduation fees, school fees are due if grades are to be released. Rent and mortgage are overdue. The car is on its last leg, and like Mother Hubbard with a large household, the cupboard is bare to the bone! The washing machine decided to do its last spin and the cooking gas left you with the peas and rice pot. Emma is still in dilemma, but the master is not only near, but here.
There comes a time in all of our lives when in the midst of success, merriment and the party in full swing, that the wine runs out. It is not a problem if the wine runs out at four o'clock in the morning and you are in familiar quarters, but when the party is in full swing, the music is hot, the occasion is grandiose, it is no time for the wine to run out.
How is it that after many years of marriage, the children are all grown and grandchildren are increasing, one spouse decides that there are too many years in the bed and they need a young one to level the playing field?
There are many that were comfortably situated on secure jobs only to have the place of employment declare bankruptcy, and years of toil and hope washed away by the sea of disappointment and financial disparity.
Yes, there are many situations along life's road that leave our water pots empty. In our text today, a wedding takes place in Cana in Galilee. Mary was invited and so were Jesus and his disciples. It was no ordinary wedding – but in the midst of the celebrations, someone drank the last of the wine. Mary, with a heart of compassion for the wedding couple, said to Jesus, "They have no more wine."
Jesus addresses his mother, "Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come."
Mary is upright and forthright and plays her role as woman and mother and tells the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
In turn, Jesus gives a command, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.
Then, he told them, "Now, draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then, he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
Whatever you are experiencing in your life today and you feel that the wine has run out, bring it to the attention of Jesus, The Christ, for he is well able to turn adverse situations around. He is able to soothe your sorrow, ease your pain, drive away your fear, order light to your darkness and newness to what many have labeled a write off.
Why not give God a chance in your life today! You have nothing to lose, but blessings to gain and receive.
