Dining with Purpose: BNT Invites Public to Pig Roast 2023

Wed, May 24th 2023, 11:20 AM

The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) invites the public to attend Cuban Pig Roast 2023 on Saturday, June 10th from 6:30pm at The Palm (formerly Philosophy Smokehouse). Title sponsors of this year’s event are RBC Capital Markets and Sagoma Construction International.

The Cuban Pig Roast is the BNT’s annual flagship fundraising event, inspired by the joyous gatherings of family and friends in Cuba who come together to celebrate and enjoy good company. In a similar fashion, Pig Roast brings people together for a night of food, fun, and fundraising Attendees can look forward to buffet-style dining from Events by Alexandra; premium cocktails generously provided by Bristol Wines & Spirits, Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits, Sands Beer, and Caribbean Wines & Spirits; live entertainment, and the chance to win exciting raffle prizes, such as Family Island weekend excursions that include Bahamas Ferries tickets.

Each year, funds from the event supports a different BNT priority conservation project or initiative. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the construction of a much-needed Welcome Centre at the Moriah Harbour Cay National Park (MHCNP) in Little Exuma.

MHCNP is a jewel within The Bahamas’ national park system, with many conservation and community projects in development. Notably, it is being utilized as the site of ongoing “conchservation”, through the Queen Conch Mobile Hatchery Pilot Project - an experimental initiative to cultivate conch at the egg and larval phases, for education, research, and restoration purposes. This is just one example of many opportunities present within Moriah Harbour Cay to facilitate community-based conservation with the potential to benefit locals on Exuma and The Bahamas as a whole. A Welcome Centre will be a key component in fulfilling this vision for the MHCNP.

Last year, Pig Roast 2022 raised $100,000 for flamingo conservation at the Inagua National Park. The flamingo, the country’s national bird, was rescued from the brink of extinction through efforts led by the BNT. Funds raised at Pig Roast 2022 supports the implementation of an Invasive Species Management Program to protect nesting sites for this important bird.

This year, the BNT invites the public to support Pig Roast in the hopes of making an impact for the Moriah Harbour Cay National Park and surrounding communities. To purchase tickets, visit https://bnt.bs/pigroast2023/.

Pig Roast 2023 is also sponsored by: Sandyport Development Company; Sun Oil Bahamas; CIBC FirstCaribbean; Atlantis; New Providence Ecology Park; The Baha Mar Foundation; The Bayshore Group; Harbourside Marine; and Bahamas Waste. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, along with corporate tables and individual ticket sales.
