The Ministry of Transport and Housing is making progress in Abaco, with the Minister of Transport and Housing JoBeth Coleby-Davis explaining yesterday that in the next few weeks, 10 to 15 homes will be able to be occupied.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting between the Ministry of Transport and Housing, the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union and the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association, Coleby-Davis explained that infrastructure work in the area where domes once stood following Hurricane Dorian will soon commence.

"If you go there, now you'll see that we have roads, and we will soon have the markings on the roads," Coleby-Davis said.

"So that should get started soon. That's going to be the first phase, that would be like 11 homes, and then I think the other side is 21 lots."

She added that her ministry is waiting on permitting on some other properties on Abaco in order to begin other housing developments there. According to Coleby-Davis, they could get started by summer.

"Abaco is getting on stream, not as fast as I would have liked, but we're getting there," she said.

For New Providence, she said several homes are being completed at the Renaissance at Carmichael. She said it is hoped they can be completed by June, though she explained that rains have held up the work at the site.

Coleby-Davis also revealed that the government is about to begin phase two of the Pinecrest subdivision, while on Eleuthera, they are beginning the interiors of several homes that recently had their roofs completed.

"So we're getting ready to do the interior of them and get persons in them," she said.

"And on Grand Bahama we just got approval for land purchases in the Heritage subdivision.

"Once it's not government land, we have to get the approval to purchase and then we can start. So, we got some things going and hopefully it's picks up in the middle part of the year. So at the end of the year, we have more to celebrate."
