With the objective of revamping and revolutionizing the way that government serves the Bahamian public digitally, the Department of Information and Communication Technology is on a mission to revamp and rebrand the government's website, www.bahamas.gov.bs

A ceremony marking the event was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.  Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Wayde Watson delivered brief remarks on behalf of the Minister. He said that it was necessary to revamp the website in order to meet the growing needs expressed by the public and also to address some of the challenges that the website has. Among those challenges are: outdated features, inability to support decentralization of agencies, outdated information and functions, security concerns, and a decline in use among other issues.

"We wanted to address the many concerns that faced the Bahamian people when using the website," said Mr. Watson. "We also wanted to make the website more aesthetically pleasing, more user-friendly to enhance consumer engagement."

He said that the objective of revamping and relaunching the website by engaging a highly skilled vendor, in the person of Cayman-based company 'Netclues,' is an attempt to address those challenges.

Acting Director, Charlene Laing outlined some of the areas that will be improved.  A team of individuals representing the various government agencies will be formed in order to personalize the content to reflect their individual needs, adding new new content, including photos, videos and social media handles, designing public facing forms for data collection, fine-tuning online payment options, including interfacing with the 'mygateway' portal and updating information on government personnel, including Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, etc.

Representative of Netclues, Kartik Mehta said he felt privileged and humbled to partner with the government in this initiative.

It is projected that the revamping of the website will be a six-month project.
