A 29-year-old man who hit a security guard at a web shop in the eye with a phone was on Thursday sentenced to six months' probation and ordered to compensate his victim.

During his arraignment before Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr., Kameron Rolle pleaded guilty to assaulting Marvin Munroe.

The charge stems from an incident at Ultra Games on February 22.

Rolle told the court that he hit Munroe in the eye with a cellphone during a heated verbal exchange after the guard tried to prevent him from entering the establishment.

Rolle said that he was sorry about what happened, but Munroe "had attitude with me first."

He said that several days before the incident, he had an argument with the cashier at the web shop after he queried why his account didn't have a promo box, which entitled him to free spins.

Rolle admitted that he was recently released from prison after serving time for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In passing sentence, Allen noted Rolle's early guilty plea, youth and that there was no evidence that his victim was injured.

However, Allen said that Munroe was assaulted while doing his job and the court didn't condone his behavior.

He said that he would give Rolle a second chance since he committed a minor assault.

Consequently, he ordered Rolle to pay $500 in compensation to Munroe by April 3 for his emotional suffering.

If he fails to pay the money by the deadline, Rolle would be jailed for three months.

He was also ordered to stay out of trouble for six months. A breach of this order would also result in a three-month prison sentence.
