FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA — A Police Corporal is in custody after an alleged altercation with another man turned into a bloody and brutal attack involving six other people early Saturday morning.

Assistant Superintendent Stephen Rolle told Eyewitness News the officer got into an altercation with another man while at a nightclub on Logwood Road shortly after 1am.

Rolle said the altercation became physical, and several young men joined the fight. At some point during the fight, a knife was introduced; however, Rolle said it is unclear at this time who wielded the weapon.

Rolle said both the police officer and the man he was initially fighting received serious injuries and were treated at the hospital and discharged.

The officer was stabbed in his neck and head, while the other man was stabbed in the cheek and other parts of his face, Rolle said.

Rolle said three men are in custody, adding that officers are still searching for four other men who are believed to be residents of Sweetings Cay.

Rolle said: "As it relates to police officers behaving in this type of behavior, the Commissioner of Police has stressed zero tolerance when it comes to any officer of the force behaving in such a way and if he or she is found to be at fault, they will be dealt with."

Yesterday, a video purportedly taken of the fight went viral on social media.

In the video, a group of men can be seen attacking another man who is pinned against a gate.

In the minute-long clip, the men repeatedly punch, kick and stomp on the man until he is lying motionless on the floor at the end of the clip.

Last night, Rolle acknowledged that more police officers were at the nightclub on Saturday. However, he said preliminary investigations indicate only one officer was allegedly involved in the incident.
