Sexual assault arrests

Two Grand Bahama men are in jail awaiting trial in relation to two separate sexual assaults in late January.

On January 30, a 23-year-old woman caught a ride with a man she knew, and was reportedly attacked and left on the road at Deadman's Reef, West End, according to police.

She was found, slipping in and out of consciousness at 1:30 a.m.

Police made a quick arrest and on February 7 at the Magistrate's Court, Herman Major Jr., 35, of Deadman's Reef, was charged with rape and causing harm, denied bail and remanded in custody until his next court appearance May 3.

Police also reported that on January 31, around 2 a.m., a young girl was sexually assaulted by a man who burglarized her family's home.

Police arrested Joshua Oliver, 31, of Coral Gardens. He was charged on February 7 with unlawful sexual intercourse and burglary and remanded to custody until a court appearance on April 26.

2016 murder arrest

A 45-year-old Grand Bahama man, sought by police since August 2016, has been charged with the murder of Tashard Barr, 22, who was found stabbed to death at Les Fountain Plaza on East Sunrise Highway.

Jaret Pinder of Tasmin Circle was remanded to custody until a court appearance on May 5.

Guns and drugs

Officers seized a handgun and drugs at a home on Pinehurst Drive in South Bahamia on February 10, police said.

Six men were arrested.

Officers from the Alice Town, Bimini, station found cocaine with an estimated street value of $1 million during the search of a boat at the Cat Cay Marina on February 12, police said.

Two men and a woman were arrested.

Two men, arrested in December on firearms charges, were sentenced in the Magistrate's Court on February 3.

Eighty-year-old

Fredda Hart, 80, and James Hart, 30, were arrested December 1 at their home in Wellington Pinder Heights, Grand Bahama, and were each charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The elder Hart was sentenced to 12 months on each count, and the younger was sentenced to 30 months for possession of the firearm and 24 months for possession of ammunition.

Stolen boat recovered

Three men were arrested and charged with stealing a boat from the dock of a home in Fortune Village in early January.

A blue and white 32-foot center console Century with a pair of 300 horsepower Yamaha outboards was taken shortly before 9 a.m. on January 3, police said.

The three have all pleaded not guilty, were granted bail on the condition they will sign in at the Central Police Station every week, and ordered fitted with electronic monitoring devices.

Their next court appearance is April 4.

Traffic fatality

Police on Abaco are investigating the death of a pedestrian around 11 p.m. on Friday.

The man was walking in the area of Candyman Bar and Restaurant in Marsh Harbour, when he was struck by a dark-colored Nissan Note, according to police.

Police said the driver did not stop at the scene.
