Costume launch to be held this weekend 

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — After months of hard work and development behind the scenes, Mas Khaos will make its debut this weekend as the newest Bahamas Carnival band with a costume launch under an ancient-Greek-inspired theme titled "The Inception". 

The event will be the group's third production, following July 2022's memorable outing "Don't Call it a Fete" at Fusion Superplex and January's "Let the Khaos begin" event at Fiff Place.

Mas Khaos will bring its take on Caribbean entertainment to the picturesque John Watling's Distillery on February 25, 2023. 

The choice to use Greek theming for Mas Khaos' inaugural season is no accident – it is intentionally connected to the inspiration behind the group's name. 

"In Greek Mythology, 'Khaos' is described as the formless entity from which all things were born," said Jayson Braynen, Mas Khaos' Managing Director of Marketing.

"We thought it would be appropriate to introduce the band to the world stage with a story of who we are. 'The Inception' refers to three elements; the genesis of our brand, the start of the 2023 Carnival Season, and the mythological origin of our costume sections." 

Events Director Jondeisha 'JD' Hall added: "Even the word Khaos encapsulates the true spirit of Carnival: freedom, empowerment, self-expression, and of course, vibes!" 

Mas Khaos members were tightlipped over the details but did promise that the sections will appropriately be themed after Greek goddesses. On offer will be a wide array of options for seasoned bacchanalists and first-timers alike. 

One such first-timer, Ciera Roberts, is a model for one of the costumes that will be unveiled on Saturday. 

"I was nervous at first, but the Mas Khaos team was incredibly supportive and helped me come out of my shell," Roberts said.

"I've always wanted to be a part of a carnival band, so to have the chance to model these beautiful pieces is something I truly appreciate."

Roberts is part of a crew of all-Bahamian talent that has already been photographed in-costume. The captivating images are set on John Watling's iconic backdrop. Gun Cay, a Bahamian rum that is aged on-site, is a sponsor for Mas Khaos' 2023 Carnival Season. 

Paige Forbes expressed a similar level of excitement as her team members, representing the band as its Creative Director in charge of theming and concept development. 

"The costumes are everything I could've imagined and I'm excited for everyone to finally see them," said Forbes. "To have carnival returning after such a long hiatus definitely creates an air of anxiety around it to see how it'll turn out, but overall I'm hyped to see everyone come together on the road." 

Mas Khaos' mission statement demands the band be "disruptive" to raise the standard of Bahamas Carnival to new heights. The band's ambitious vision is to become the benchmark of service for bands worldwide and it looks to kickstart its found objectives on February 25.

Tickets are available now online at MasKhaos.com and include unlimited all-you-can-drink Gun Cay rum cocktails supplied by John Watling's Distillery. The gates for the event open at 7 pm. Following the big reveal, an after-party will be held on the grounds and costume packages will be made available to purchase online. 

The road march for Bahamas Carnival is scheduled to be held on May 20, 2023.
