When the Bahamas Red Cross Society (BRCS) reestablished their tea party fundraiser in early December, Diamonds International’s participation added delight and dazzle to this high society-themed affair.

This Bahamian Celebrity Christmas Tea Party was held under the patronage of Lady Clara Smith, wife of the Governor General, and hosted by Lady Darling, a former patron and past president of the BRCS. Several women were honoured as “celebrities” who had worked tirelessly with this non-profit. These great women included Dame Marguerite Pindling, Lady Darling, Lady Foulkes, Cynthia “Mother” Pratt and Beverly Wallace Whitfield, MVO.

“Over the past 50 years, our leaders and their spouses have supported The Bahamas Red Cross Society, said Lady Darling. “We have invited them as our country’s celebrities, to support this important fundraising event.”

Shivan Sareen, general manager of Diamonds International Bahamas was pleased that their company could support the Bahamas Red Cross. They oftentimes work behind the scenes assisting those in need and in this instance, wanted to share the spirit of the Christmas season by providing giveaway bags to each guest, including a Safi Kilima Tanzanite necklace as a raffle prize. Team members Chardio Knowles, Robertha Smith, Carenda Jean and Safiya Whyms had a memorable time as they mingled with Dame Marguerite Pindling and Cecilia Cooper, wife of the Deputy Prime Minister, including businesswoman and philanthropist, Elaine Pinder and her two sisters at a beautifully decorated table.

“The tea party was a wonderful experience,” stated Robertha Smith, a manager at the main DI store. “Dame Marguerite Pindling was delightful and down to earth, and it was a pleasure for us to speak to her in this informal setting and receive some of her great wisdom.”

Other celebrities were Ann Marie Davis, spouse of the Prime Minister, who was joined by members from the Office of the Spouse, Equity Bank and friends, including Ruby-Ann Darling who attended with Mrs Pratt.

“In the history of The Bahamas Red Cross, high teas were held in the gardens at Government House to aid the Society. After many years, we are reintroducing this exciting event,” said Terez Curry, the president of the BRCS. Government House is currently under renovation and therefore, it is anticipated that next year’s tea party will return to that historic venue.
