Dr. Marlo Murphy Braynen Appointed Dean of the College of Business

University of The Bahamas (UB) announces the appointment of veteran financial management professional, Dr. Marlo B. Murphy-Braynen, an alumna, as Dean of the College of Business, effective 1st August 2022.
 
As Dean of Business, Dr. Murphy-Braynen is responsible for managing the academic, operational, fiscal, and human resources of the College of Business, while also facilitating the delivery of academic programmes, including the development of new programmes and the systematic review, assessment, and evaluation of existing programmes. Additional duties include academic policy review and development; monitoring student enrollment; facilitating the timely completion of degree requirements; collaborating with public and private sector partners to build synergies and meet human capital demands; and promoting the continued development of the College of Business.
 
A financial management professional and educator with over 30 years of experience, Dr. Murphy-Braynen has held leadership positions in various sectors including public accounting, financial services, and academia. In previous roles, she served as Director of Accounting, Financial Controller and Vice President of Finance at UB.
 
Dr. Murphy-Braynen earned two Associate Degrees in Economics and Accounting from UB with distinction. She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Accounting from Florida International University with honors, a Master of Business Administration from UB with a specialization in Financial Decision-Making; and received the F.R. Wilson, CMG Award for Excellence in Graduate Research. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), dually licensed by the Georgia State Board of Accountancy (USA) and The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants. She later completed a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of South Florida with a research focus on “Toward Improving Export Diversification and Economic Growth In Small Island Developing States”.
 
Additionally, she has also completed a number of executive education programmes including the Leading Organizations Executive Education Certificate Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design; the Post-Crisis Leadership Certificate Program at the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business; the CFO: Becoming a Strategic Partner Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Bridge Program.
 
Dr. Murphy-Braynen’s publications include, “How Does Export Diversification Impact Economic Growth? (Muma Business Review Journal, Vol 3 (4), 2019); “The Relationship Between Export Diversification & Economic Growth: A Comparative Analysis With A Focus On Small Island States” (International Journal of Trade, Economics and Finance, 10(4), 2019); and “Graduate Employability of Business Students (Administrative Sciences Journal, 2022, co-authored by Wise Mainga, Marlo B Murphy-Braynen, et al.). Her research interests include export diversification, economic growth and trade mechanisms used to support economic growth inclusive of business incubators, export processing zones, and e-commerce.
